The LWV of the Flint Area is a local chapter, chartered under the national LWV and the LWV of Michigan. We work to empower and engage residents in our geographic region, which is all of Genesee County.
In 2018, we agreed to add members throughout the five thumb regions (Lapeer, Tuscola, Huron, St. Clair and Sanilac) to our area of service. We mentor and train these League members to provide services in their own counties. It is our hope that their work will expand and they will be able to form their own local chapters.
As a grassroots organization, our work is dependent on the members who dedicate themselves to our ideals. Our members understand that educating the public on voting, without partisan-influence, is the best way to reach all citizens. The League never endorses or opposes a candidate for office.
Leagues do take positions on issues that have been adopted through a rigorous process of education, debate and consensus. We use these position statements, at the local, state and national level, to advocate on issues that are important to our members and the representation we expect from our elected legislators.
Our volunteers are members who agree to perform the work of the League in a non-partisan manner.
